Like Father, Like Son? Service is a Family Tradition

My father was very civic-minded. In 1934 he was asked to serve as Rose Festival President -- the same year the festival was originally incorporated.

Forty years later, in 1974, I became the first son to follow his father as board President. I've been a member of the Executive Committee ever since. The Rose Festival is an annual event, which brings the whole community together -- it's one of the last remaining Portland traditions.

For me, the Portland Rose Festival is an important family tradition.
